Sony sold all IP rights for KPop Demon Hunters to Netflix for $20 million

Date: November 22nd, 2025 8:16 PM Author: Obsidian Gaming Laptop Sony developed it as a completely novel project, not tied to any pre-existing IP. During the pandemic they decided it made more sense to sell it to Netflix for production costs plus $20 million.
Netflix is going to make billions and billions off it and completely owns all the IP, except music (live theatre/toys/merch/theme parks/etc.).

They’re expecting similar for Merch and licensing. It’s going to be a Fortnite season.
But the biggest value by far is however Netflix calculates signups/retention, where it has already produced $1 billion in value (unique to Netflix obviously). |
