At this point he is part of the landscape here. He blends into the background, occasionally reminding everyone that he is still around by bumping another batch of forgotten threads. Every now and then someone points out how surreal it is that he has kept this up for years, but he no longer changes the overall rhythm of the board.
If anything, his presence wastes what is left of his 30s, if he is not already 40. Time that could have gone into something with purpose, or even just peace, is instead poured into these endless posts.
A permanent ban would not be a win for us. It would be a win for him. When people with addictions lose access to the thing that consumes them, their lives often improve. It forces them to confront the empty space they were filling. A ban would do that for him. It would break the feedback loop that keeps him here, typing into the void and convincing himself that he is getting the last word. It would give him the first real chance in years to step away and rediscover what normal feels like.
He will NEVER take that step on his own. That is why I am perfectly content with him staying here indefinitely, still posting, still arguing with ghosts, still trying to get one over on people who stopped caring long ago. If he keeps this up until he is 50, so be it. At least then the years he has tried to waste for everyone else will have truly only been wasted for him.
