Does unemployment matter for China like it does for the US? In the US employment is the primary welfare program, that's why unemployment is so problematic. The Chinese state is more flexible.

The question used to be when China's GDP would surpass the U.S., not if. Now there is a good chance that it will never happen. Even if it does, it will likely be short-lived as China's economy stagnates due to the lack of young workers. I don't see this changing unless the CCP makes major reforms (or loses power entirely).
