If you say "double quarter pounder" they're going to put you down for the meal unless you say "just the burger! by itself!" You can't say "à la carte" to proles because they'll never understand in a million years.

At some point, it became the default. Or, they are just trained to ask, “do you want the meal?” Any time someone wants to order just a sandwich. The solution to this conundrum is not to try and preempt them from saying “do you want the meal,” but to anticipate that that question will come, and answer it accordingly. If you find this exchange unpleasant maybe don’t buy fast food. |
