i'm just razzing you about ryobi because it's the consensus "shit" brand. i bought what my bluecollarmo friends recommended, i don't claim to actually be some tool comparison masterman. nor do i think that it's actually that bad of an idea to get some entry level tools if you're doing ordinary shit.

to that end i doubt epah is much of a tool comparison masterman either.

you don't see ryobi tools on a jobsite because the targeted brand demographic tops out at basically DIYers--tools required by that level of work literally don't exist branded under ryobi. for those where the tool brands overlap it probably doesn't make a lick of difference and certainly not for the level of use anybody here is going to care about

many manufacturers have different tiers of brands that are produced in the same factories but still have significant differences in quality. automakers do this all the time.

also everything is made in china now. even american brands are sourcing a significant portion of their components from china. and even when the components were made here the same factory could produce parts of various qualities. the same is true of chinese factories.

cr. i actually waited to do my xmas shopping until today and all the "deals" are weeklong deals. it's likely gonna be the lowest price, but it's what the "best sale" price always is.

with online shopping loss leader doorbuster sales are done here. i went to costco at the mall this morning and it was pretty dead. looked like any other day.

sonos works well if you just want casual listening but it's comically expensive relative to wired speakers of similar audio quality/output

You can find some good wireless speakers on the high end but I still don't trust it (and they're still a good amount more expensive). The beauty of a regular old passive speaker setup is you don't have to worry about needing to setup your speakers with a fucking app and they will last an eternity since the electronics aren't too complicated.

tbf anything above 5.1 is total fraud & lies. But I'm not married so I don't really give a fuck and just stuff them in raceways.

KEF seems to be the most reliably recommended wireless speakers for a real home theater system but you definitely pay a premium for the brand + wireless. But if you need something that fits a room well they do look pretty SWeet. Again main concern is if I'm dropping that sort of money on a speaker system I want them to last, and you're locked in to a specific vendor's wireless speaker setup+apps and crap. There's not really a standard.

a car hitting 100k miles used to be a big deal

these days pretty much any run of the mill toyota/honda/etc will barely need any repairs up to 100k and last far, far beyond that. and cars are far more powerful, fuel efficient, etc. now on top of that

A V8 Lexus with tons of sound deadening material that gets 12mpg is quieter than the new one that gets 29mpg. You can also install any aftermarket stereo you want, put an amp and subwoofer in the rear deck, whatever you want. As a consequence, the music sounds better.

I finally got rid of mine because I hardly ever drove it anymore. I keep thinking I still have it, like phantom limb syndrome. It was so nice but you have to drive them regularly
