Behind the façade of compassion and care, the long-term care industry exposes the true economics of modern death. Private equity, insurance schemes, and government subsidies turn the decay of the body into a revenue stream. The “care” system is not a moral failure but the logical endpoint of secular materialism: the monetization of our fear of the void.

A feel-good story of Boomers getting their just desserts. We need more positive content like this on the board imo 👍🏻.

"my step dad just recently went into hospice and has spent about 2 years in a facility like this for palliative care before that. My family pays 10k a month and the level of care is shockingly bad. He has tremors so bad that he can't feed himself and despite big signs my mom put up in his room, and endless reminders to the staff, it's nearly impossible to get them to help him eat.

The staff turnover rate is so high that there's a new person to familiarize with his condition every few weeks. Usually they speak very poor English and so you have to literally ask every time we're there to visit - please help him eat. The administrators are always telling us that they're 'understaffed' and that they're doing their best.

Two weeks ago this giant angry black lady was about to hand him a boiling hot cup of coffee and I said "he can't hold that and he's going to spill it on himself" and she freaked out and just started yelling at me and my elderly mother that we were racist. Was completely stunning.

They also do a very sophisticated good cop/bad cop thing. There are two really good nurses there and each time my mom has a complaint - she talks to them. They assure her that things will improve and they'll do a better job but it's just rinse and repeat.

Now that he's in Hospice - medicaid covers that 10k bill for a few months but there's no way I'll have that kind of money when I'm old. I don't have any kids and if you don't have any advocates from the outside - you'll almost surely be abused and neglected by the staff. No way in hell I'll ever agree to enter one of these homes, I'll take my own life before I get to that state. My retirement plan is a revolver."
