The guy clearly lives behind a computer and ventures around SF only occasionally. He extrapolates his experiences on the streets of SF to every city on the planet, and assumes the experiences of the people of SF represent those of the modal American. The guy is stunningly out of touch.
He also is completely incapable of critical thinking. He does a lot of analytical thinking and writing, but never questions even the most tenuous of assertions so long as they are published |

He argued that natural experiments are as valid as laboratory or field experiments (natural experiments aren’t experiential; they’re a retroactive re-reading of data parsed through the lens of a hypothesis), and claimed natural experiments might even be better than lab experiments because they have perfect ecological validity (ecological validity doesn’t even apply to natural experiments because natural experiments aren’t experiments). I’d have been rolling on the ground laughing at him if he didn’t have such a large following of people who all zealously believe the things he says.
