N64 won the gen retroactively when all is said and done. The economy was good so $60-70-80 cartridges didn't matter. No one noticed or cared how much they cost.
3rd party support wasn't that bad. It was just decidedly.... western. but today, western publishers are predominant af. So by TODAY's standards, N64 would fit right in, whereas JRPGs, fighters, parasite eve, Gradius Gaiden, and mega man x games would dismay zoomers. Meanwhile, Body Harvest is Open World. Joanna Dark is a strong female lead with a bad phenotype. N64 was a 21st century console in the 20th century.
Also, it ended up getting Titles like RE2 and Mega Man Legends. Eventually.
And then there's the PS1 Classic which is well-documented as a disaster.
Also, it had far, far more Exclusives than Switch 2 btw.

unironically yeah
i mean maybe it was just because i was a kid and life was 181 back then, but i'm willing to project my own subjective experience onto the entire rest of our civilization, sure
