These are their only grandchildren. Their other relationships have dissolved and their other issue have expired. It’s kind of odd to me that they cannot even muster a passing acknowledgment, even if pregnant with indifference. The lack of response almost suggests to me that the children’s photos has given them a fright—perhaps it’s the passing of time? Perhaps it’s a reminder that they do not have a strong relationship with their own kin due their past indiscretions and personal failings? Perhaps they are sick or otherwise infirm.
