Depends on the model. Some it’s a classic variant like with the santos. Sometimes it just feels like you want to be fancy but couldn’t afford the full gold version so it kind of defeats its own purpose.

I’m never going to spend a lot of money for not the real thing. If I can’t afford a Royal Oak I’m not gonna still shell out a lot for a defy skyline.

Zenith is the el primero. Seems crazy to get a non-chronograph zenith.

This attitude is so strange to me.

1) Zenith is older than AP and DEFY is older design than anything from AP.

2) If you mean it's not chronograph, some people don't want that in a watch. DEFY's movement is simple and more importantly, extremely small giving it a low profile. The only watch with a lower profile is Santos

3) Only VC and Patek are on AP's level

The defy line covers a lot of ground. The specific ref you mentioned is a blatant copy of the Royal Oak. I’m not even saying it’s not a nice watch. I just wouldn’t feel good about spending thousands of dollars on it.

Zenith is a great brand with tons of history 100% of which is tied to the el primero movement. So if I’m going to shell out $5-10k on a zenith, it is definitely going to be a chronograph. These are just my opinions.

What makes you willing to spend thousands on a watch? I only asked you about Defy Skyline because it's closest to Santos in the same price category. But I get why someone would prefer an original Cartier design over a non-EP Zenith

I’ve come close to pulling the trigger on exactly 2 watches: zenith chronomaster original and Cartier santos.

Both are original, classic and timeless designs. Of all the watches I’ve looked at, these are the 2 I keep coming back to. I still can’t get past spending that much money on a watch though.

To be fair at this point "AP" is just 8,000 versions of the Royal Oak. Sure those are the traditional trinity but Lange, Journe, and like 100 other small indies are doing much better work. My next watch will be a Gronefeld or a Laurent Ferrier, or maybe Romain Gauthier. Or prob just buy all 3.

Tbh I think AP makes by far the coolest looking watches, and a lot of huge lower tier brands (Omega, Zenith, Tag etc) relentlessly steal from AP and not even subtlety. But I'm also a huge prole.

If im planning to live exclusively outside for the foreseeable future, what is the best place along the Mediterranean to crush rooftop/patio bar scenes? Assume I can only drop $300k tabs once every month or so.

I’ll have a basically unlimited budget for ultralight mountaineering equipment and yes can live in a tent on the deck of an oceangoing catamaran yacht. So probably best if it’s someplace with outdoor showers, but I can probably get one of those on said yacht

summer for sure between SoF/Corsica/Sardnia/Italy, could sail over towards Greece. For winter can you cross the Atlantic or have boat transported to Carib?

Per rules of the other threads hypo, I can’t go inside the cabin of the boat or any planes or anything but I can hire a crew for the boat and just sleep in the tent with a lot of good foul weather gear for the crossing
