Cons can't stop winning!
IT’S OFFICIAL: President Trump defeats NY Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump’s $464 million penalty has been overruled. He no longer has to pay it.
The weaponization failed.
And she now has her own legal troubles.

the lawfare was used as leverage against orange retard to fully skinsuit him. that's why he's full hogwild on ethnically cleansing gaza, instituting digital panopticon (CBDC hell + "project stargate" + dramatically expanding ICE to target US citizens) etc
i wouldn't be celebrating this. it was never about lawfare in and of itself - it was about controlling the retard

Fox News is a bunch of low iq rednecks who don’t know shit. It was New York’s appellate division (the intermediate appellate court), not the court of appeals (NY’s SCOTUS)

I usually enjoy lib tears but the r/news thread is super depressing. They think he literally stole $500m and the court ruled he doesn’t have to return it because paying it back would be too burdensome. If this is what half the country believes, our future is bleak.
20 years ago no AG would have brought this case, no judge would have let it proceed, and the mainstream media would have condemned it as a farce.

Banking law mastermen, what would have been a normal or appropriate fine? If the Trump Organization fraudulently inflated the value of their assets to obtain favorable rates and treatment, a fine is appropriate, even if $500M is preposterous and out of proportion with the offense.
Money saved from the misstatements as restitution plus 3X that amount as a fine plus the state's legal fees seems appropriate. Would that be a few M?

what's appropriate is the same fine that is applied when the same practices are followed every single day (as was uncontested at the 'trial'): no investigation, no fines, no nothing.

There has never in the history of the world been a case where, 10 years after private loans were fully paid off, were investigated by a team of attorenys working on public dollar, to then charge someone for lying on an ancillary loan document.
There is no "restitution" to be made. The public was not harmed. The private lender said they'd gladly continue doing business with him.
You know how when you buy a $200,000 house, your lender requires pay stubs, tax returns, bank receipts. Believe it or not, before someone loans you $100 mm - they have a team of accountants and lawyers to do this.
I'd venture to guess that this dumb form is not even part of the diligence packet the lawyers/accountants/underwriters review.

didn't all the loans get paid off in full, on schedule? if so, what losses are we talking about?

these charges were bs from their inception and that 'judge' was a fraud. when i saw the oral argument on appeal i breathed a sigh of relief because the judges all obviously understood.

To be fair,
The so-called "offenses" that Trump was sued for here are notoriously ubiquitous within the NY RE community, and as a result this absurd showtrial and the $500+ million judgment levied against him raised such profound concerns among (((the moneyed elites of Manhattan))), that the current sitting Governer of NY literally literally had to come out and issue an insane public statement explaining that *only* Trump will ever be sued in this fashion.
"Don't worry, (((gang)))... the rest of (((you))) can go about (((your business))) as usual, this was just a bit of a random 'one-off' lawsuit we randomly decided to pursue, odd case hehe. ;)"
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4474774-hochul-tells-ny-businesses-not-to-fear-about-trump-verdict-nothing-to-worry-about/
Yet somehow, despite the indefensible hypocrisy and sheer ridiculousness of this position being pointed out by tons of people many times during the last year, most libs still seem genuinely shocked that this retarded bullshit was inevitably overturned on appeal.
It's almost like these people are actually dumb as shit. Almost!

It’s an obvious Eighth Amendment violation but I’m surprised the Dem state judges didn’t just leave it for SCOTUS to fix and damage its reputation further.

"Leave it to SCOTUS... to damage its reputation further"
I know this is going to sound completely insane to you since you're a Jewish Shitlib Pumo -- so stay with me here -- but did it ever strike you that this sort of thing is actually a two-way street, and it's possible that some of the more sensible NY State judges might actually be worried about damaging their *own* reputation with the sizeable conservative + non-insane-moderate contingent of society (which just put Trump back in the White House for a 2nd term) if they mindlessly rubber-stamp an "obvious Eighth Amendment violation" because GRRR ORANGE MAN BAD?

NY is a lib state, so why would NY judges care about their reputation with Trump supporters? The average lib thinks Trump literally stole $500m and corrupt judges let him get away with it.
I respect them for making the right decision but it is surprising.

To be fair,
You do realize that there are ~3 million registered Republicans in NY and another ~3 million unaffiliated voters, right? And together those two populations make up nearly half of all voters in the state?
Also, yeah great point I can't think of any reasons why a non-insane judge would ever want to just "do the right thing" on "the merits of the law"... that that would be totally unthinkable!

this blog post suggests that the ruling is rather complicated and that this court punted on the big issues but did so in a way that gives DJT the right to an appeal to the highest NY court on the fraud issue.

XO Shitlibs (c. 2024): "No shit this was an open-and-shut case of obvious fraud, of course it resulted in a huge slam-dunk ruling against Trump. Idk, maybe that orange buffoon shouldn't commit a bunch of obvious fraud next time? ;)"
XO Shitlibs (c. 2025): "Ackkkkkkshually, as this random blog post suggests, the new appellate decision overturning the judgment against Trump below is extremely complicated and NOT really a big 'win' for Trump, per se, because this was actually a very nuanced set of circumstances and there's a lot going on here that doesn't REALLY implicate the core issues... anyways gtg, I won't waste my time further trying to explain all of the sophisticated 'ins-and-outs' of the various technical legal doctrines that are at play here to you abject retards..."
Wow! Sounds like this case sure has "evolved" quite a bit in the last year!

Wow! So weird how the trial court could have allowed this $500MM booboo to happen, for a crime that has never been prosecuted in the entire history of the state of New York and for which there were zero out of pocket damages (as neither side disputes). So totally random and kooky!
If you are a prosecutor and are able to obtain a verdict like this, and it's so egregious that it's overturned by the dimwits at the appellate division, you should be removed from office as a threat to liberty and the state should have to do an investigation determining and publishing the cause of the error. Our current legal system does not do an adequate job of discerning between legitimate minor errors and complete miscarriages of justice like the trump prosecution and this absolutely insane civil verdict. And he should be entitled to recover the cost of his bond from the state. (I'm sure that alone has cost him millions.)
