When you have a few minutes to jump Online and browse or poast, and you come to xo and the whole front page is some guy spamming, some stupid "drumpft" politics garbage, some mentally ill people "feuding" with each other, etc, you look at it for a few seconds and think, lol fuck that, and go browse Twitter instead or go do something else. Over time, more and more people come here less and less, because more often than not when they do visit XO they have the experience above. It's a compounding effect over time as more and more people don't come back

No one comes here to read tommy turdskin's 29th thread of the day drunkenly spamming about "birdshits," or yet another "reverse big willie" twitter link about how drumpf is a "pedo" or used the wrong noun in an offhand sentence. It's not interesting or funny. It's just stupid. I can throw up a random thread about grilled cheese sandwiches and it's in the top 3 most interesting threads on any given day. There are like 15 guys left here posting actual content and the rest are obnoxious loser freaks who none of us would ever give the time of day to irl

There's not actually a way to fix this at this point, because 90% of the quality poasters have already left because they got tired of the losers here shitting everything up. Oh yeah, don't forget "nyuug," yet another weird mentally ill loser ethnic who comes here to spam because he has crippling psychological issues. Cool, man. Might as well go downtown and walk up and down alleys with drunk schizophrenic homeless people yelling out random shit (this and shitty niggers and ethnics are what ruin public spaces irl too, odd case)

I wish I could offer solutions but I don't think there are any. The only constructive thing I can say is that you should take a lesson from this and never have any tolerance for shitty people in any context. The reason why this forum died is because the presence of shitty people was tolerated. The reason why our irl society is getting worse is because shitty people are waved in from overseas and because the shitty ones already here are tolerated and even encouraged. You should never show any mercy to shitty people and never forget that they are personally responsible for every single bad thing that happens in the world

What I mean is: restricting the type of content that users can post is mostly ineffective and doesn't achieve the goals of a forum or society (making it a good and enjoyable place to be). Banning certain naughty words or even banning specific behavior, like outing people, doesn't actually do much to restrict the actual bad actors

It's not "bad behavior violations" that ruin a forum. It's specific individuals. You don't throw the book at a guy irl for his first DUI. He's still a good upstanding contributing member of society. He just made a mistake. Punishing him doesn't really even accomplish much

What you should be doing is ruthlessly banning the few, and it's very few, bad actors who are the ones actually responsible for ruining a community. The guy irl with 20 misdemeanors? Just execute him. The guy who comes on autoadmit and spams the same shit every day? Just ban him. Why would we tolerate the same handful of fucking losers coming here shitting things up every fucking day? Just ban them!

Most people don't even need Rules hanging over their head to engage in pro-social behavior. They will just naturally do so. It's only the few shitty people who are just intrinsically shitty, irredeemable losers who need to be restricted. If the same repeat offenders here (and it's literally the exact_same_people doing this shit for YEARS) were promptly and quietly and responsibly banned years ago, this forum would probably still be a thriving place today

you are 100% right and your criminal example is spot on. everyone fucks up from time to time. i'm all for retribution too and if the oopsie 1 time DUI guy runs over a kid they should be punished severely. but if that person is permitted to reenter society he's unlikely to act antisocially ever again, because he's a well socialized person who feels guilty. punishment *works* on these people. that's why we called them penitentiaries -- for penitence.

when i began megapoastering most of my content were threads like vodka gf and other interesting irl stuff. i stopped because over time my threads were overrun with the same handful of mentally ill losers just being negative assholes for the sake of it.

a good recent example of the seeking arrangements dating guy. his threads were great but 80% of the comments were bitter dorks. at first it's "this is flame" or "you're going to get scammed" and then it's "you're larping" or "stop bragging." meanwhile those commentors will create thread after thread about trump minutiae or whoever they're feuding with.

it chills good content and creates a vicious cycle. good poasters leave or poast less, leading to a greater percentage of shitty poasters and poasts, which means fewer good poasts and poasters...
