People just like this game because it’s straightforward after the raiden hangover. Westerners wanted something The Same as MGS1 and they got it.
Some of the story touches like Sokolov being used to bargain for the end of the Cuban module crisis are peak Kojima. The Jupiter IRBMs actually were obsolete as the game says, meaning that the fact that we removed them from Turkey as a condition for the Russians removing missiles from Cuba doesn’t actually make sense. So much of the story is lost on westerners imo.
Hayter is only good with anime dialogue like MGS1 and with the right voice director. He sucks at movie-esque dialogue imo. He’s awesome in MGS1 and finds ways to suck in various points in the other games imo
