  Bodybuilders generally focus on doing slow & controlled reps. Doing reps like that you can only lift like 1/2 of what you could lift if you're drying to just lift as much as possible with decent form. 
 
  They also do a lot of volume. You may be seeing him at the end of his workout when he's going to be much less strong.

  Look up how professional athletes like NFL players train, and train like that long term. Strength focused, but it's functional (not in a gay CrossFit way) and also duly prioritizes injury and overuse prevention (which is basically the most important thing long term).  Look beyond NFL though.  Much to learn from studying the training of wrestlers, MMA fighters, hockey players, etc. I don't recommend against Olympic weightlifting itself, but one should study their training and take inspiration from their supplementary lift buffet.
