It's also interesting how often the rules could have helped me in the past, they are not always punitive. For instance, plenty of times I've had unplayable balls behind a tree or under a bush, and I've always just taken lateral relief for a one stroke penalty. But I could've been taking back-on-the-line or stroke-and-distance for much better lies rather than trying to hack at it in a terrible spot. |

Date: May 12th, 2026 12:28 PM Author: fuck man xo I remember getting boned in HS districts over some cart path bullshit where the path was right against a tree line and ended up making a good up and down to save bogey. found out after the fact that the local rule was to drop on the side where I'd have a clear shot.
current club has internal OB but only for tee shots. it's an old small footprint course and it's basically to stop people from ripping drivers down the adjacent holes on some of the doglegs and hitting people. |

Date: May 12th, 2026 12:50 PM Author: fuck man xo I had to explain the internal OB nuance to this indian college kid in a interclub match who drove it like 300+ because I wondered if he would actually go that route on one of the holes. a few of the dogleg holes if you can lift it high enough you can technically blast over the trees and play down the fairway of the hole next to it and take like 50+ yards off the hole. they do internal OB as a local rule so people don't killed.
