In the 60s campuses were rife with leftist indoctrination, catalyzed and enabled by race and the Vietnam war. As a STEM guy I only saw it from afar. At MIT the Chomsky was the heart of it, but I was never in his orbit. Most of the people I knew who came under his influence did so via political science courses. |

A couple of years after the W date who would not see me again episode, I bumped into her. I was in grad school by then and it was commencement weekend. She was very drunk and with a couple of chads. She climbed all over me and said that the reason she ghosted me because she thought I would never amount to anything, but had just changed her mind after hearing during the commencement ceremony that I had won some award. I suppose that revealed her true intentions. By then I had a regular girlfriend to fuck daily, so she was not so interesting. I was too prole to hang with W chicks anyway. |

Then one day she gave me a big speech about how she didn't want to be friends anymore because she was worried that having too many philosophical discussions would dissuade her from her main mission in life which was to be dumb, hot and popular. She said the most important thing to her was to be pretty and accepted by the in-crowd and she was afraid that it might get out that she had a rich inner world and had any complex thoughts at all and this could damage her brand reputation. I remember thinking in disappointment that this chick was wayward and forlorn and that this was a terrible, shallow way to go about existing. Nevertheless, I accepted this and forgot about her entirely. We never hung out much again.
Skip ahead 30 years the last time I googled her she was getting a masters in gender studies from an Ivy and had become a lesbian and was an age adjusted 6. Sometimes I think I had more insight as a 9 year old than most people have in a lifetime. |
