no but keep on thinking about pulling the trigger on buying a real roman soldier's helmet to wear when working on the computer - think it will help with focus/getting fully locked in.

No. Metal protective gear isn't allowed in HEMA.
I think the SCA guys do the full armor dress-up, but everything they do is fake, so I was never interested in that.
It's pricey, but not nearly as much as some people might think. There are lots of armories making the stuff.
