i knew a biglaw associate who decided to quit but he was essential to a massive case that still had 2-3 years to run. so he cut a part time, hourly deal with the firm and he secretly worked long shifts at Safeway earning a union wage and getting health bennies. he saved every penny for a little over two years and then pulled the ripcord. |

This guy just had to deal with surfing the internet all day in a federal government job. And once you're out of the fed gig you're out and usually have no marketable skills.
Would be interested in knowing what he's doing now. |

last i heard he was living out in the rural inter-mountain west with a younger wife and some daughters and got a job coaching multiple sports at the local high school that had farmers' kids and indian reservation kids. |
