Its like looking at a campfire and thinking "its beautiful why dont we try to live in fire? or at least become immune to its harm?"

Never going to happen and if it did, you would have evolved so far past the natural systems of your body, you would in no way be you. "What if we became steel?"

"Humans" can't do shit with space, but look at it.

Colonize the deep ocean or something

It’s perfectly feasible for humans to build a self-sustaining colony on Mars using existing technology. It’s just prohibitively expensive, for now.

self-sustaining and expensive seem to be working in contradiction here.

nor do i believe self-sustaining is remotely possible. We would constantly have to use earth labor and earth materials to keep our earth-simulation on mars remotely habitable

its not dissimilar to my fire analogy. we could build suits and such that allow a few people to "live" in raging fire. We just have to constantly use resources from the non-fire world to keep up some proximation of non-fire conditions for those who, retardedly, are living in fire

the only reason these dorks dream of colonizing space is because of science fiction. if it was really about settling new frontiers it would be far easier to do on the now uninhabitable areas on earth. deserts, artic, even the bottom of the ocean. and we'd want to do those things in order to develop the technology to live in inhospitable environments anyway.

i think tho even the science fiction has a natural and noble origin. we want to conquer more territory and resources and it makes perfect sense that after we mapped the globe, we started looking at what logically comes next.

i just think we may have actually hit a ceiling. kind of sad to be among the generations alive at that moment, but this is probably just about as far as we get. there's no more leveling up.
