One U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was high confidence that Pakistan had used the Chinese-made J-10 aircraft to launch air-to-air missiles against Indian fighter jets - bringing down at least two.
Another official said at least one Indian jet that was shot down was a French-made Rafale fighter aircraft.

There's not even a case to be made for defending Taiwan at this point.

Close. It was more a question of whether we'd dump shitpiles of money into Ukraine or Taiwan. There was no pretense about if affecting the outcome of a war.
Part of the split has to do with old tech vs new. We spent hundreds of billions on Ukraine, but it was all spent on shitty old clapped out weapons platforms. The team pushing to support Taiwan envisioned us selling them the latest and greatest tech, electronic warfare shit, that kind of thing. In retrospect it would have been a better investment of money. But the contractors who would have benefited the most would be smaller outfits, not Lockheed/Raytheon per se, so they never had the same pull in Washington.
