BUT, i use mathematical induction at my job, while I'm programming.

Two concrete examples:

1) When we're testing a new version of a pricing library, we compare the output of a file with the output of a file that was produced during a test just before. if the files are the same, then we're good. Because we assume that the one from before is good, given that the first one is good. that's what mathematical induction is.

2) When I download historical spreads from a database, some of the dates have error values. What i should do is some sort of interpolation to get the value, but I do something more simple which is just get the value from the day before. If there is a value for the first date, then i'm guaranteed to have an entire series without any errors. Again, basic mathematical induction.

as far as your comparisions go unless you use a cyclic redundancy check or non repeating hash the two files cant be compared directly. a bit differential will cancel out and even though both files are different you will get the result that both files are identical.
