Fucking 38932789473987329 books
His stuff was always just a little bit scarier than what I could handle, which meant I loved the FUCK out of them
Also he was a Catholicmo and I always appreciated the use of Catholic iconography and stuff (although the bit in one of the books where the kid fucking goes off on a trip with a priest alone to fight ghosts or something raises the eyebrow today)

the priest was 180 actually
Also I just realized that the fact that the priest played a guitar was probably a joke about Vatican II

yeah they were pretty scary as a kid but I read them all too
used to daydream how 180 it would be to solve supernatural mysteries with a curmudgeon old history professor bro
