Just added another one that's on a big sale with 4 2.5gb ports. My setup is far more hardcore. I have a pro grade 10gb switch going to 2 Wifi 7 access points (all from Ubiquiti).

These are my APs: https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/wifi-flagship/products/u7-pro-max

I might move to 10gbe but I'll be running it through a managed switch, not a router. The problem is that most NICs won't do anything between 1 and 10gbe. They won't drop down to 2.5gbe, so you have to go all in and make the whole network 10Gbe. Most of the affordable NICs run hot too, because they are based on old Intel chipsets designed for servers in 2013.

This is what I have: https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/usw-enterprisexg-24

It has been working great.

Of course, this was a few years back and these days you can just get one of these or some variation thereof: https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/usw-pro-24

That stuff is nice but my NAS can't saturate anything faster than 2.5, and my actual "router" is a 10 year-old laptop running OPNsense. I'm building out with laptops as much as possible now because they have built-in terminals and you don't need a UPS. A lot of them come with Thunderbolt too.

I'm not at this stage. I have a NAS running unraid and a proxmox cluster. If I want to run Windows or LLMs I do it in a VM. If I need more cpu cores I add an old laptop to the cluster

What sort of data loads are you bros slinging around? Moving my Word docs, photos, videos around hasn't been a taxing network task in a long time.

I have multigig internet and WFH, wife does WFH a few days a week, plus whatever guests, au pair, etc. We basically can't afford any slowdowns.
