It's fucking scary at first but nowhere near as risky or hard as people think. In fact, most people who are intelligent and self-aware tend to lean risk-averse. Therefore, a lot of the intense competition is for shitty $80k to $200k office jobs that the top 10% gun for.
Meanwhile, the few guys I know from my high school & college who started their own businesses and face almost no local competition are killing it, netting $750k+, the real American dream.
No one is hitting on the 4-5's at a bar, we can all agree to that. However, too many are hitting on the 6's and 7's because they seem attainable, though a slight reach. But if you were to really go for it, you'd see that very few sober (i.e. non retarded) people are going for the seemingly high risk 8's and 9's, which makes them actually safe investments to go after and your best risk/reward option.

Your statement is why it's even easier to do so nowadays.
Every aspie is trying to swipe on the tinder 8's and 9's, settling for 6's and 7's. Meanwhile, ~80% of 8+'s still prefer to start off with physical interaction.

Having some sort of online consulting business is probably the easiest way to make middle class money, ever.
That said, it's very much an "easy to do, hard to do well" thing.
I'd favor a business for someone who is not that ambitious. If you want to rake in barrels of cash, it seems like the classic biglaw or medicine route is better, or at least more consistently effective for large numbers of people.
