I know people in the absolute rock-bottom of the class who have tidily locked up biglaw jobs. (I do know some who are struggling, however I attribute that largely to a lack of interviewing skills.) I can't speak for the 7-14 schools, but I'd have to think they don't have too much trouble finding jobs even w/mediocre grades.
Really, this advice only applies to those poor unfortunates who attend T15-25 schools. Everyone above should relax. Everyone below should quit. Keep in mind that I could easily have been one of latter types, if not for my charmed life. |

It's not a problem since, unlike many here, I don't harbor deeply-seated racist beliefs or bizarre sexual fixations. In fact, unless we're talking about rock music, I'm unlikely to get voluble about anything at all.
EDIT: The use of "THE" rather than "TEH" speaks to a refined aesthetic sensibility that rises above trite internet cliches to find its own, dictionally appropriate, voice.

My CrimPro hornbook (by the same authors as the textbook) is literally twice as long as my textbook. My Evidence supplement is 1.5x the textbook by the same authors. Luckily they're both pretty good stuff, well written and understandable. I'm going with Bainbridge for Corporations, basically because I'm a conservative douchebag and I loved his blog when it was still online.
Glannon is easy stuff to read and internalize, though he wasn't nearly as good on the actual rules (FRCP) as I would've hoped. (Keep in mind that my school split CivPro into two classes, the first covering the FRCP and the second covering questions of jurisdiction, etc.) Dressler isn't tough to get through either. But maybe I have a high tolerance for this sort of crap; after all, I spent my UG reading treatises on 19th-century Russian agriculture. |

FOUR. OVER TWO QUARTERS.
Additionally, the class was nominally graded in part on attendance.
I more or less taught myself the entire subject in the two days before the exam, using Dressler, plus reading some of the papers we were given in class.
I got an above-median grade.
MORAL: You'll do fine - I have no doubt you're more diligent about class than I am. Read your supplement, take some practice exams, put on some nice meditative music as you study...you'll make it. |

Seriously, although I don't expect most people to match my personal rate of text consumption/internalization (which is pretty ridiculous, owing to lack of social skills as a child which translated into lots of spare time to read), you should be able to get through the entirety of Glannon in two or three days with good retention. And that's assuming reasonable days, not 24-hour no-sleep days.
Dressler is much more dense, but well-written for subject it covers. Glannon is a highly-praised miracle because it makes often-mysterious subjects like jurisdiction strangely comprehensible. |

I will confess that I have NEVER, not even once, taken an actual practice exam. Just don't have the self-discipline to do it. I've certainly looked through them (you'd be suicidal not to), but I've always felt it was far more important to grab a good supplement or treatise and iron out the more knotty questions I had concerning doctrinal issues. For example, for Ks last year I read Chirelstein but I also bought the thick treatise written by our textbook's author and ran through his treatment of every issue I was unclear on. It ended up helping me a lot on our exam.
To be fair, however, I probably study very differently from most people. |

If you're exams start next week, may as well listen up too. First, fear is infectious and I guarantee you the library scene is going to get more and more grim as the time approaches. If you feel yourself getting nervous or you’re easily influenced by people like that, avoid situations where your peers are congregating at all costs. If you think you’re a huge slacker and not taking this as seriously as you should, then try to spend some time around the jittery kids with three cans of Redbull® and a stack of supplements. Second, you’re going to be just fine. The legal market is quite strong right now and recruiting is way up. You’re all at good law schools (even those of you not at T14s) and you’re going to be gainfully employed upon graduation. If you don’t get Law Review, if you don’t get a V5 firm and if you don’t make Top 10% your world will not be swallowed up in the wake of a massive vacuum of prestige. This board specializes in outlandish hyperbole and black and white thinking that ignores the real range of gradation. Third, that’s not to say you shouldn’t take this seriously, because it does matter. And since it’s not like I’m the smartest person in the world or was the most successful law school exam taker, I’m going to point you to advice from someone who probably is. XOXO’s own Fiver, a SCOTUS clerk and all around overachiever. Her advice is really good and I wish I had seen much of it before I took my exams.
