"Russia will likely surpass 1 million casualties in its war on Ukraine this summer, according to one of the world’s leading think tanks, reflecting the staggering human toll of President Vladimir Putin’s assault on his neighbor.
Around 250,000 of these Russian soldiers have died, the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies said in a report Tuesday.
Ukraine has also suffered heavy losses, with 400,000 casualties including between 60,000 and 100,000 killed, it said." |

That's really not why. It isn't like anyone in Ukraine has any choice. The borders are closed. Those that had the means to escape did a long time ago and the population of people that live in Kiev controlled Ukraine is MUCH lower than people think. That's the reason why Ukraine has perpetual manpower issues. All elections are cancelled and this isn't short-term. For Russia the borders are open and anyone can simply leave. Russia's entire strategy is for life to continue BAU instead of moving to total war footing. A bunch of people left early in the war when they thought it was going to be there soon but they overwhelmingly came back. |

Russia has taken ~150k dead. The kill ratio is about 8 to 1 in Russia's favor.
The drone production story tells it all. Ukraine will make 2.5 million this year but Russia was already at 4 million last year and is pushing 6 million this year. The Russians have a 3 to 1 advantage is drones in raw numbers and they have better drones having fielded fiber optic drones first and the likes of Lancet first. |

Ideally you have a 3 to 1 advantage and Russia can only produce that in certain areas of the front. They advance more than 1km a week.
