It's a little claustrophobic, but it does the job. It's more comfortable than the sleeping on the ground in a tent, but much cheaper than a hotel room.
The R1S is actually designed for car camping. You either get an RTT or just fold down the seats and put a mattress in the back. It has an auto leveling feature if you are trying to camp somewhere with an incline, which would be amazing. And I believe Rivian is designing an RTT that includes electric heat and a tablet built into the wall that can be used as a TV, although I'm not sure when or if that will be available for sale.
If all you care about is comfort, some sort of RV is still a better option. But then you are restricted to basically paved roads and established campgrounds. With an EV, you can drive on a dirt road into the middle of the wilderness and then camp out under the stars with heat and/or air conditioning. It's really 180 if you are into that sort of thing. |

You're exposed to the elements, and you're also potentially exposed to homeless people/gangbangers if you are doing urban camping. If you sleep inside your EV, while you have less space for gear, you also have heat and AC. You can park overnight almost anywhere you feel like it, and you have a locked door to keep criminals away.
Aside from comfort and being able to go off road more easily, the main reason I would want a Rivian is that I could get a portable electric range and mini-fridge and be able to cook. With the Model 3, I either have to drive to town when I want food or subsist on trail mix and granola bars, neither of which is ideal. |

With a fixed pot of money, he's actually doing the CR thing by staying in the third world where the cash has at least a shot of lasting his turd lifespan.
