By not trying to make it look aesthetically pleasing.
As someone intimately involved in hiring both new recruits and laterals, I can tell you that we automatically pitch resumes when they are anything other than a bullet-point list.
Any shading/borders/funky designs make us think the person is compensating for some lack in substantive qualifications, and it makes the recruiter think too hard when looking at your app. Make it look like everyone else.
