She's great to hang out with otherwise and of course she has a right to support, but it's hard to do that constantly and then have someone not even be able to remember that you're moving or taking a bar exam or changing jobs until it's been mentioned three times.
Add in to that that everyone has a job and a life and other friends. XO meetups have never been the main part of anyone's life, or something that's done every week. People have always skipped. |

I have a great deal of trouble believing that. You started by being mopey when you heard I was having a party. You were mopey when someone posted a thread about it the next morning - on one you acted outraged towards every participant. You knew the people you blew up at well, and didn't need to do any of this on threads that involved me if you didn't want to make a point.
That was rhetoric for chrissakes. It was expressing what's annoying about the discussions.
Again, this isn't a black and white thing. There was the point where we weren't going to be that close because you didn't care what I had to say and were going to call names afterwards, and the point where being around you was kind of stressful, and the point where you were being mean for the sake of being mean when I had mostly been ignoring you. The last one is what makes me angry. |

It would also have been better if you had been more direct with individuals this fall about being disappointed with them not showing up, rather than waiting until several months later. I had no plans to discuss this on the board or to discuss it at all, and I ignored your complaints about my party for nearly a week before losing my temper. I regret that I said anything at all. I hadn't meant to.
The specific thing I was referring to was this fall, when I had to tell you at three different meetups that I was looking for jobs elsewhere. You were shocked every time, and I had to give you the same explanation each time, which quickly turned into the usual discussion of how you miss New York.
I often don't respond to your calls because they're generally to talk about one of your problems (I literally can't think of a call that wasn't about either that or directly related to meeting up), and sometimes I'm not up for it.
You sent your text at midnight when I was out with my boyfriend. Given the fight before the bar and my then state of drunkenness, I didn't have anything nice to say in response, and thought it was prudent to ignore it. |

You declared other people to not be your friends anymore simply for attending a party I threw. That's an incredibly hostile move, since you're basically asking people to only hang out with one of us. You were also making a dramatic issue out of the friendship thing the day I was trying to pack and study last minute. Did your friends do things like that the night before your LSAT testings, or your TFA interview? Would you have been in a calm, test-ready state of mind afterwards?
I thought we were quite close friends at one point. Then we drifted in somewhat different directions, and somewhere along the line, that became something that felt an awful lot to me like being used as a complaint board. I had hoped we could be more casual friends (like I am with most people on the board), and when that didn't work out, I had hoped we could just kind of let things drift apart.
For all the problems between the two of us, a lot of this is overreaction on your part. There's really only one person here besides you who I hang out with on any kind of a regular basis. The rest I run into every three or four months, and we're all fine with that. You and I didn't even hang out constantly in the good old days. How many big meetups were there, even? |

the thing with bpm was me getting really frustrated and blowing up, in an admittedly childish way. i just didn't see why someone who (imo) does not consider me a friend would bother to pretend to be one on the board.
also you continue misstating the problem. i don't care if other people hang out with you. my problem was that they made really flimsy excuses about their reasons for not hanging out with me, which appeared even more false in light of their willingness to go to this meetup. and it's really only two people. beta i think accepted that we're not friends anymore; bpm thinks trying to rile things up are funny and clearly doesn't care either way.
what's most sad about all of this is that i think things could have been nipped in the bud months ago if you had just told me you felt i was complaining too much and not being attentive enough to you. i guess it's my fault for not picking this up but i guess i assumed we were close enough that you would...tell me if you had a problem with me, so your insistence that you didn't just threw me off. also your complaining about me to other people was really hurtful to me. i'm sure i haven't always been a perfect friend but i really think you have treated me in a way i never treated you. |

It could have been more pleasant, but I don't think it would have changed anything. I had had a feeling for a long time that you mostly wanted someone to listen to your problems and sympathize, and didn't care much about who that person was, for a long time. The breaking point for me was that text conversation where I kept telling you I didn't have an answer for you (because I'd already given you my opinion previously and you disliked it) and you kept pressing.
When you contacted me this winter, I thought it was a bit like this, though less severe. It wasn't like we were ever going to go back to hanging out regularly - we lived in different cities and had established we would for the foreseeable future. It seemed like another attempt to air your problems and have people listen. So I told you things that were true (that people really don't hang out twice a week, and that others were often just busy with their own lives and that you misperceived this because you were on vacation). I also did tell you what I told you here at the end, in milder form - that the discussions about boys and Arkansas can get pretty old. |

and you accused me of being self-centered? no rowan it is not about you and my desire to keep people away from you. if you remember, i first introduced you to beta and actually convinced him that you were ok to meet and would not out him. and if you remember when clearly threw a meetup i was sad then as well. it really isn't about you. if there had been a huge meetup that you didn't attend my reaction would have been the same.
to answer your first question i did it publicly because a)bpm kept trying to talk to me and i was annoyed with her and b)when i saw beta post in that thread i was really just shocked because he's so averse to meeting people
no if you had told me you had a problem with me i would have just not attempted to hang out with you anymore. again this is probably me being naive but i sorta thought "hmm maybe she really is just busy whenever i want to schedule a get-together." also sometimes clearly and i would be going out, clearly would mention inviting you, and i'd say "well i already asked her and she says she can't come" and miraculously you would appear after clearly asked you. honestly i didnt know what was going on. |

So why did you decide to be a bad sport on the announcement thread, or call out nyuug for making a post, or clearly for having a boyfriend? Why did you bitch about it in tinychat the night of the party? Your reaction to this wasn't limited to calling out two people.
How would that have stopped this? You'd still be resentful about there not being enough meetups when you were back, and you'd still mind that people came to my event last week. |

I think you're being pretty dishonest here. You talked shit in tinychat the night of the meetup, and your series of "Since when" posts had a point behind it other than wanting to catch up. You were pissed and you wanted everyone to feel bad that they went to my thing when they didn't go to yours. You said as much in your posts.
But aren't you claiming it has nothing to do with me now? The result is the same. My going away ended up being about you being hurt, not me seeing my friends for the last time. That's a crappy thing to do whether someone's your pal or not. |

That's late, it's hard to get things together then, and people do have lives and jobs and boyfriends. We never had meetups twice a week when Smoke lived here.

- Rowan is mad at Blue Smoke for bringing her into this mess and for generally acting like a child. Rowan performs a fatality move, rips Blue Smoke's heart out and eats it in front of everyone.

Oddly enough, the only reason I imagine Rowan came off looking bad in that thread is because she looks so great the rest of the time. Had it been anyone else, the pettiness and the cattiness wouldn't have been as shocking and people would have dismissed it as deserved. |

For instance, I had a friend who suddenly started making excuses every time I called to see if he wanted to hang out... I don't think I'm as sensitive or insecure as Blue Smoke so I didn't make a big deal about it or even particularly care that much, but gradually my invitations became fewer and fewer until they stopped altogether because I assumed he didn't like me anymore or found something better to do or something.
I'm really kind of tired of this though. You did nothing wrong aside from refuse to recognize that there will be consequences from this kind of behavior. Since you don't seem to care much about Blue Smoke anyway, I don't understand why you just can't accept the consequences of her not liking you instead of running around and calling her crazy and acting like you have no clue about anything. |
