Also if he is sufficiently smart he should be getting good grades without paying attention anyway. I'm not sure what there is to substantively "get" out of grade school assuming this is like K-5. This is your window to course correct before puberty hits and you lose significant ability to control their everyday lives. |

speed isn't going to help you pick what to focus on, it's just going to give you laser focus on what you're doing. if he's just doodling for five hours you end up with gakked out doodles, not reading the encyclopedia
but yeah addy is a ridiculously powerful drug to give to adults, the fact that we hand it out like candy to actual preteens is absurd. exhaust all other options before even considering it, and even then know you're taking a huge gamble |

I also use sparingly because I know there's likely some long-term tradeoff with regards to frying my brain or neurotoxicity etc.
it helps me a ton, but I constantly have to fight my urge to get a little more gakked out. especially if you're relatively sensitive to amphetamines like I am there's a very fine line between "modestly more productive" and "going down a gakkTHOUGHT rabbitHOLE"
all that is to say I think it's extremely dangerous for teenagers, much less children. the only truly safe way to use amphetamines is to never touch them at all, not because of chemical addiction but because it will give you the sense you just "can't work the same without it" |

E.g., late night biglaw brief drafting or something when you've already gone through enough coffee to kill a small horse and you still need to pump out 5-6 more billables.
What they will not do is help you start tasks or switch your focus from a time waster to work. For someone in school, you don't have much choice over what you are doing (e.g., you are often just sitting and listening to a teacher, or working on the same test as everyone else, etc.) so that is somewhat less of a worry.
I would be very concerned about the impacts of these drugs on young brains and bodies. Furthermore, I'd be concerned that it becomes a perpetual crutch if he gets used to it as such a young age, whereas youth is really the time for kids to learn as many good lifelong habits/skills as they can.
Edit: also it's pretty easy to get hooked on them and if you do them regularly it will lead to everything else in life becoming less fun, which would be a shitty thing to do to a kid. |
