Hilariously, every piece of bad news makes the market go higher because it suggests interest rate cuts. Think about how insane that is.

How was the news about jobs bad from the perspective of the stock market, even putting aside interest rates

The job market is softening (openings have plummeted recently) and has been far shittier than some of the headlines have suggested for a long time (we've been losing full time salaried positions for a very long time). But from a stock market that's great news because that means interest rate cuts.

I said put aside interest rates. The stock market reflects the equity value of firms that mostly buy labor, not sell it. A softening labor market is bad for labor, but not necessarily bad for capital

That's not insane, it's rational. The stock market is mostly very large companies that perform well in a recession compared to small caps, microcaps and small businesses. If we're headed to a recession it's rational to cut interest rates and it's rational to own Apple, McDonalds, Caterpillar etc. who will all return more than the low interest rate and the recession if anything will clear out their smaller competition.

Fun fact: the companies that skyrocket the most are NOT the very large cos but small speculative companies that don't even turn a profit yet because debt is cheap. Basically, value is now determined far more by government action than fundamentals like "what are customers buying and do they have money?"

It isn't that we "want it to be different", it is that when the market cares mostly about government action rather than things like the health of the economy and consumers then it indicates that our market economy is broken and that the government has entirely too large of a role in it.

The market is going to rip up at least 20% over the next 12 months.

Ignore the Shiller PE it's pointless now when companies like Apple, MSFT, Amazon, and Nvidia make up 20% of the index.
