Date: May 28th, 2025 2:31 PM Author: Big Site kurosawa was wildly popular and pedestrian, think spielberg. he was not critically acclaimed and while he brought japanese cinema international, it is the cinephile and cineaste set that really worships him. japanese at the time thought his films were immature, too western and flashy. it is funny to me that white liberals worship kurosawa now.
chinese cinema was closed off for many decades and unknown to the west. there are many great directors, more recently the fifth generation, zhang yimou and chen kaige being personal favorites. the fact that barely anyone knows these names tells me that you guys think chinese cinema is jackie chan in rush hour. |
