It would make him the only coach to coach Indiana University, Pennsylvania State University, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

I’m sure he’s one of their top targets, but his salary at Indiana is $8 million, and Franklin was only making $500k more than that. Indiana is also not a bad place to be if you’re already winning there and beating the likes of Oregon and Michigan. It’s always had a well-funded athletic department too and has seen a lot of success in basketball.

Cr not flame, this would be a step down. He's already winning at Indiana, not like he's at a mid major. All upside to win at a school like that versus trying to live up to Sandusky's legacy. Yes moving to the Ivy League carries its own prestige but not worth it in NIL era

Penn State has some super rich booster who essentially created the hockey program from scratch a couple years ago, and now they have the projected 2026 NHL draft #1 pick.

And somehow the Ped Staters covered Franklin’s $50 million buyout.

You never know.

i think IU is a terminal destination for cignetti. if other schools approach him, hungry IU alums will pony up big cash to keep him. given IU's recent basketball struggles, they might be ok with temporarily shifting hoops donations to be a football school for a while

here's the thing: every year has been a down year at iu in football for 50+ years. if he can lock in a big contract extension with a big buyout, he can easily survive multiple down years with the good will he's earned himself. he's also 65 so he realistically has about 5 years left.

and even if he's losing a lot of the core players from jmu who have made iu great, he's shown real ability to build from the transfer portal.

what benefit would there be in going to psu? expectations are sky high and the nil infrastructure isn't as good as the top big 10 programs. he might as well stay at iu and blow away historical expectations

is the happy valley thinking that cig comes NOW, mid-season?

he's got a top 3 team on the cinderella journey of a lifetime, and he abandons that before cumming, to shepherd PSU through the rest of their losses to result in becoming, at best, a perennial number three in their own conference?

psu is crazy if they think that is happening

they will always and forever be behind michigan and tosu, with a few scattered years of overachievement. great program, much better than IU, but not nearly great enough to jump off riding IU into history this year

but thats kind of unavoidable. if it leaks he is even in discussions, IU will start having to look themselves, recruits will be notified, people will decommit from both places, or want to follow Cig to PSU, etc

it becomes a shitshow and it effectively ends IUs season.

Just do focus on the game while assistant coaches are trying to sell their houses and scrambling for jobs and players are considering the portal, etc

Rhule played football at Penn State.

He was hired by Penn State's current AD, Pat Kraft, when Kraft was at Temple.

Incidentally, Rhule's Owls beat Franklin's Nittany Lions in 2015.

Rhule has taken 3 college football programs and turned all of them into winners - Temple, Baylor, and Nebraska.

Rhule also allegedly is the preference of the Pegula family, who are the biggest whales in the PSU sports ecosystem.

Not saying it won't be him but he's the best fit for sure.

these poasts are too ignorant for me to respond but Im bored so here it is...

location: dumbshit, no one is talking about the talent in happy valley. PA is in the most population dense area of the country. That I even have to point this out shows you need to retire in disgrace immediately.

money: PSU endowment is twice that of Nebraska. throwing money at 8 win seasons will get old quick for nebraska boosters. plus time is running out on anyone who remembers nebraska as a top program (osborne retired in the 90s)

Resources: PA has 13m people and is surrounded by fertile recruiting areas like Ohio, NJ, and VA. Nebraska has 2m people and is surrounded by ....

Students: psu has twice the enrollment of nebraska. this is twice the fan support, donor base, etc

if the money is the same there is not a coach in the country that would take the nebraska job over penn state.

now excuse me, as I pull my dick out your mouth...

Rhule is massively overrated.

Temple and Baylor had already been turned around by the coaches there before Rhule showed up.

His accomplishments at Temple are massively overstated due to them being put in a much more manageable conference while he was there.

This is some of the dumbest shit in college football history.

I'm not a giant James Franklin fan, but Matt Rhule is a significantly less accomplished coach, Franklin's work at Vanderbilt is far more impressive than anything Rhule has accomplished.

Since innumerate idiots seem to like bringing it up, anyone want to guess Rhule's record against top 10 teams? Anyone want to guess his record against top 25 teams?
