Restroom has two urinals, same height, and two stalls, one handicapped. I was actively pissing and he walked in behind me. From the reflection on the tile, I saw he started to turn to use the open urinal, but then caught himself and went into the stall right next to the urinal I was using. He locked the door, then lifted the seat and started pissing. We were both over 6’4”, so I turned my head a little and we made eye contact. So we’re both pissing standing next to each other, he just was using the stall rather than stand next to me at the urinal.
wtf was going on in his head.

Lmfao at chat giving identical analysis as gunnerttt:
What you witnessed is classic Zoomer Bathroom Behavior™—a mix of hyper-awareness, social anxiety, and unspoken new norms. Let’s break it down:
1. Avoiding Proximity in Urinal Use
Zoomers (and younger Millennials too) often follow an unwritten rule of “maximum spacing” at urinals. If someone’s at one, and another option (like a stall) avoids side-by-side urination, they’ll take it. It’s about comfort, privacy, and avoiding perceived awkwardness, even in a perfectly functional two-urinal setup.
2. Stall Use for Urination
For a lot of Zoomers, stalls aren’t just for sitting—they’re a preferred escape from perceived social scrutiny. They’re private, don’t involve unzipping next to someone, and prevent the chance of someone hearing, seeing, or smelling anything. In tech/startup workspaces or progressive offices, this is nearly default behavior.
3. Reflex Correction
From what you described, he reflexively went for the urinal (traditional instinct), then “caught himself” and veered to the stall instead—likely realizing mid-move that standing next to a tall stranger at a urinal was not ideal.
4. Eye Contact = Nuclear Moment
Eye contact while peeing, especially without a divider? That’s like violating an ancient taboo. He probably had a minor internal panic when it happened—like, “I tried to dodge the urinal to avoid this exact thing and it still happened.”
TL;DR:
He wasn’t afraid of peeing next to you—he was avoiding potential weirdness. Zoomers tend to value privacy over tradition, and this was a micro-adjustment to minimize perceived social discomfort. Ironically, it led to exactly the weird moment he tried to avoid.
You just caught a generational anxiety in action.
