Even if you can afford to buy one or are given one, homes are extremely expensive to own, maintain, and remodel. You see this all the time in the housing market. The idea that you can have a beautiful 3 bedroom home is completely out of reach for anyone with less than $500k income. Then, if you’re a poor, in the middle middle class like me, you can’t sell your home because they say do all these things to fix it up so it will sell and that costs a fortune, and then you have closing costs, and don’t get me started on medical “providers” (who provide nothing but a hand in your pocket).
I am getting it from all sides.

To be fair,
Indy: Housing + Transportation Costs % Income ?
Average : 42%
https://htaindex.cnt.org/map/
Wow. Why don't these people in Indy just accept on average at paying 42% of their income on shelter and transportation! Its so affordable!
Only 22.4% of Indy neighborhoods would someone now be spending 36% of their income or less on housing/transportation which is borderline consider "unaffordable" and hint 100% of that 22.4% is in vast majority black areas so there is some borderline unaffordable housing in the first city you mention if you are willing to give up the other basic needs of safety and education.
Ya, silly me for thinking there was a housing problem.

I know multiple people that have HHI of 200-300k that have a nice home (e.g., 5 bed, 5 bath) worth around 1mm. These homes are relatively new (less than 10 years) but admittedly a little farther out from suburbs right next to major cities.
This delusional board seriously thinks you need to be a millionaire to own a home and it's ridiculous. Maybe you just need to manage your money better you fucking retard gook.

To be fair, wow people making a quarter of a mill could afford homes 5-10 years ago? Well that certainly destroyed his argument that housing is currently too expensive.
Anyone want to play throwback to xo2007 and play weaken the argument?

These threads always go to shit because OP fails to include unspoken ancillary conditions:
Americans who work middle class jobs should be able to afford a home: in the area they grew up in, near a vital city, or without having to relocate to some brand new region
OPs usually just write "Americans who work MC jobs should be able to afford a home" and everyone jumps in "REFUTED: HERES A 250K BOX I FOUND ON ZILLOW OUTSIDE OF AKRON"
I agree with OP but I admit we should claim and own our priors: the homes that middle class people should be able to afford should be in the areas they want, within reason. Go ahead and eliminate MFH/SF/Socal beach towns, but generally yeah you should be able to live in cities you want to if you and spouse are working middle class jobs.
