The candidate who was disqualified was doing a lot of shit that was bound to get him in trouble anyway.

What that guy didn't mention was that the candidate, Zeeshan, also announced that he was endorsed by the Black Law Students Association, even though the BLSA does not endorse SBA candidates. He talked to a single member of the BLSA who said that she supported his election, and to him, that meant the entire BLSA supported his campaign.

Shady shit like that would've got him dq'd even if he didn't get dq'd over the video.

Here is the email that was sent to all BLSA members. You decide whether this is really an endorsement.

---------- Forwarded message ----------

From: "Koren Stevenson" <krs35@law.georgetown.edu>

Subject: [BLSA] VOTE OR DIE!!!

BLSA Family:

SBA Elections begin this evening at midnight. These elections are very important because SBA controls the funding for all student groups including BLSA. The president of SBA has the potential to impact your daily campus life. As such, we expect that all BLSA members will take the time to vote. Below is the list of candidates that BLSA is endorsing.

http://www.law.georgetown.edu/SBAElections

President

Zeeshan Javed Haveez has contacted us for our endorsement and we are happy to support him as he has been active in our organization, and we feel that he will be excellent in building consensus across campus.

Beau Finley is also a BLSA member, and our SBA Appropriations Liaison.

Secretary

Janelle Matthews

3L Delegate

Janelle Matthews

Julia Richardson

2L Delegate

Macani Toungara

Julian Bryant

Claudine Wilson

Malachi Alston

Cianna Freeman

Henry Hunter

For the Delegate positions, you are allowed to vote for more than one candidate and we recommend that you support all ofthe BLSA members that are running.

Thanks,

E-Board

Z contacted one person on the E-Board who decided that it'd be a good idea to endorse him.

Unfortunately, the BLSA has a long standing policy of not endorsing candidate. Also, none of the other members of the BLSA board had agreed to this before this email was sent out.

Now, I'm not sure whether this was a miscommunication between Koren and the rest of the E-Board, whether she acted unilaterally and/or whether Z actually knew that the BLSA does not support candidates, but the BLSA does not and has not (in the recent past) endorsed candidates.

I dunno, sounds like BLSA just didn't have its shit together on this one. It doesn't sound like blame lies w/ Z if the exec board did come out w/ an endorsement of him, even if there wasn't consensus.

And why wouldn't BLSA endorse candidates? Endorsements like that turned minority orgs on my UG campus into probably the most powerful voting block despite their numerical disadvantage.

I'm not really sure who's at fault here. Like I pointed out, it's entirely possible that Z had no idea that BLSA doesn't endorse candidates and also happened to speak to the one e-board member who was not informed of this policy. I dunno.

And I also don't know why the BLSA doens't endorse candidates. *shrug*

I should have included the agenda that they worked so tirelessly on:

"- a longer drop/add period

- 24 hour access to Courtside

- a cheaper health care plan

- more LL.M. representation

- printers in McDonough."

WOW! Anybody that's been at the school could've came up with that in 5 minutes. This reminds me of college and HS student body elections in which the candidates running would promise everything the students want but nothing over which they'd have any control.

You should've called Beau and Kristen racist, and that SBA was trying

to prevent a brown man from being SBA President. It would've been

ironic because Vid, the current President, is brown. And you should've

claimed that, even though Z doesn't wear a do-rag, if he did, Beau and

Kristen would hate Z's do-rag.

Beau and Lisa won. Oh, and thank you gulc2l for calling me a douche :-P (I sent that facebook group message).

This whole thing, which I was only interested in in the first place because one of my friends was running for Prez, has forever turned me off from student government; I'm not even going to vote next year, not even if one of my friends runs. People take this shit way too seriously when it's all pretty darn meaningless.
