but that really illustrates the issue. i can admit i misjudged him. we all have to judge people based on imperfect information. i wasn't emotionally tethered to my belief he was some phoney thielbot, and when he proved not to be i was happy i was wrong. some people are emotionally invested in being "right" about "the others", so much so that they'd rather hole themselves up online rather than actually appreciate that they're nuanced people too. and that's why i'd rather get a beer with someone i disagree with on 90% of shit like EPAH than some weird groyper who i agree with on many things politically.

i've always seen the libs as inquisitors looking to oust its members based on purity tests, whereas cons were always looking for converts. but maybe that's not so much a feature of ideology, but whatever group happens to be in charge. i'm seeing cons doing purity tests now too. we're a democracy, we have to get consensus, and being the most pure and right-thinking person doesn't move the needle if you oust people that disagree with you in any way.
