of course it isn't. they're just CYA. a lot of lateral attorneys (like myself) just started studying last week and routinely pass the exam by cherry picking from the barbri paced program with common sense.

The whole thing is a waste of time. Spend a few weeks with their state books and PMBR's MBE books in July. You'll be fine.

all you can legitimately do is the essays for handing in and some of the practice questions. You need to pick and choose what's most important. There's not much point to studying the Commercial Paper Fine points.

This is stupid advice. The last three NY bar exams have had a lot of commercial paper on them. Xoxohth is full of faggots and failures.

I'll add that BarBri has been entirely full of shit lately in terms of telling you what to study. The July 2011 bar included a) commercial paper, b) secured transactions, and c) no fault insurance, all topics which they tell you to basically ignore, and only barely included anything on NY Practice, a topic they hammer you over the head with the supposed importance of.

I felt like I crushed the no fault question out of the park. I did Pieper and he gave us about a page of notes which I happened to study the night before just briefly going over the notes.

I didn't even mention no-fault in the answer. Had no clue that it was an issue until I talked to other people later.

Of course, I still passed, so I wouldn't get hung up on any of this.

it's okay. i didn't do it all and i passed. i skipped the workshops, anything related to PTs, didn't do the midterm, set 6s. but i was pretty thorough with everything that i did do and the last 1.5-2 weeks i abandoned the program entirely, didn't do any more practice questions and basically just tried to memorize everything i could

Perhaps. My experience may be atypical but I should say that I didn't skip those things because I was lazy. I began studying when barbri started and studied hard the whole summer. That said, I was taking the CA bar and barbri's schedule has a shitload to do so I prioritized according to my strengths. I didn't do a ton of MBEs (basically sets 1-5, the half day and a few MPQ2s) but I read every explanation, whether I got it right or wrong and made flashcards on anything I thought I would forget. I didn't do any PTs or watch the essay workshops but I didn't go to people's college of law and thought after 3 years of law school and legal internships, I could handle writing an essay or memo as long as I knew the law. Plus I thought the PTs were just a way to weed out the total idiots. Also, I watched almost all of the lectures, typed them out, made flashcards of the CMR (A LOT and i do mean a lot) and memorized like mad. I am not saying practice isn't important but after awhile, I just focused on memorizing the law rather than doing every MBE practice Q or essay Q I could find. I know a lot of people here focus on practice Qs so what i did may not have been very helpful to others

make flashcards, do mbe questions, and issue-spot essays. more than enough in any jurisdiction if you're smart and don't utterly choke
