Excerpts from interview with Russian imperialist milblogger Maksim Kalashnikov (who was among the most ardent proponents of the war, from the circle of the so-called "angry patriots" or "turbopatriots"), published in a video by @den_kazansky (link in threaded post).

TL;DR: I can summarize his views as, "Ребята, нам пиздец."

"Unfortunately yes. We will have to say farewell to the dream of having Ukraine join Russia... well maybe not farewell, but for a very long time. We missed the chance in 2014, and it's now clear that we will have acquiesce to Ukraine will remain a pro-Western anti-Russian state. We will have to focus on restoring the Russian Federation and turn it into a gem."

He does not share Putin's optimism about capturing Donbas within a few months (which is what he reportedly told Trump):

"What general offensive are we talking about? What Odesa? What Zaporizhzhia? These will be huge battles for these large cities, and they will turn into a dead end for the destruction of our forces. If we start mobilizing again like we did in the fall of 2022, the economy will degrade three times faster... In three and a half ears we ate through all the resources that we could have used for a quick victory. We have no resources left. Look at the economy, look at what's happening on the home front. We have now fallen up to our chest into the hole of attritional war, and the hole can suck us further in -- I mean the economy. Because if your economy collapses, it will be impossible to fight. To the contrary, we will have to accept very unfavorable conditions."

He blames the Kremlin for squandering Russia's chances:

"What's happening now is the result of massive failures of governance and organization. It does not matter how much you travel to various Shanghai organizations for cooperation and so on, whether it's with Xi or Trump, nothing will help if these failures are not corrected."

He also sees where all of this is going:

"We have found ourselves in a very dangerous situation with this endless war we are stuck in. We have a developing economic crisis at home, and we cannot deal with it because all resources are spent on the war, damn it. Who is to blame for this? Who's going to solve this problem for us? Not Xi, and not Trump. The war will turn into a very serious systemic crisis here."

"Right now, unfortunately, things are developing very badly for us. Our enemy, with good reasons, is calculating that we will not be able to continue the war because of the economic crisis. Remember we told you that there's a budget deficit, and there's nothing to cover it with aside from bank deposits. There's also a deficit in the social welfare fund, which was formed by joining the pension and social insurance funds. I estimate that the total deficit of the federal Treasury is about 7 trillion [rubles, ~$83 billion], and it could grow to 8 or 9 trillion by the end of the year."

He is not happy with China either:

"You understand that the crisis is getting worse. Our manufacturing is falling. And, by the way, China has contributed to this with the flood of cheap products, which are only cheaper because of low tariffs and large scale of production. The flood of these produces is killing domestic manufacturers."

He even notes that the Russian invasion has destroyed the most pro-Russian part of Ukraine (he knows this well since he traveled there to see what's going on personally -- I have previously reported on his videos about the occupied territories and the shock of seeing what the Russians brought to them):

"We supposedly came to liberate the most pro-Russian regions, but instead turned them into ruins with this long war. It turned out that we punished the most Russian, the most developed parts of Novorossiya. We should have taken them all in 2014, completely, unspoiled. I am looking at Vovchansk Aggregate Plant -- what a gem it used to be! Now it does not exist."

The photo shows what's left of the town of Vovchansk, which has been turned into a pile of rubble.
