question - have any of you ever gotten an offer after an oci callback in the mail rather than by phone/email? is that absolutely unheard of?

Sounds like bullshit. Unless you miss the calls and emails, there is no way your first communication will be by letter. It makes them seem impersonal and cold.

friend of mine at YLS got his offer from a Houston firm by mail...they told him to be expecting the letter but no guarantee it would contain an offer.

I'd generally go with "unheard of." Obviously everybody gets their offer letters in the mail, but I've never heard of it just showing up without a call.

so if i spoke with someone who said "we're drafting the letters today and will probably send them out today," that probs means that a phone call would come today or tomorrow to accompany any sort of positive letter?

i know this doesn't really matter, but i'm on the edge of my seat...

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about, but sounds vaguely like decisions are getting made in the next day or so. I would assume a ding if you just get a letter, but, on the other hand, I've never heard a recruiter mention drafting offer letters.

I had a letter postmarked a few days before I got the call. Letter arrived the day after the call.

That's pretty cool actually.

The offer I wound up taking came as a phone call with a vague promise of a letter being drafted soon-ish. Like 3 weeks later I got the thing. And it was back when everybody respected NALP, so the guideline period (it wasn't 45 days like it is now, but something like that) didn't start until the letter actually showed up. Pretty ballin.

A firm once mailed me a letter saying they wanted to do a callback without ever calling. But no, never an offer via mail.

I had one prior to ITE. I was like WTF because it came three days after the callback and there was no phone call. V10.

Yes, this happened to me at a V10. Partner in charge was just lazy/didn't give a shit. Got both callback and offer in a thin envelope (I know, wtf right?)

I got an offer from a V50 firm in 2007 via mail without hearing from them by phone or email. They followed up with other letters, sent gifts etc. as well. I think someone just dropped the ball, or maybe that's actually how they do it.

The *only* time this happens nowadays is when a firm sends out the "congrats" FedEx brownies or whatever the day the offers are confirmed in committee, and the partner fails to make the call to the associate before the package arrives the next day.

EDIT: But once, I *was* extended a callback in a letter. It was really weird. I assumed it was a ding letter coming a week later, but no, it told me to call them to schedule a callback.
