if an actual war broke out with a peer adversary would special forces actually be that special? they seem very very good at killing muzzies who are asleep and fucking shit up with close air support, but in actual combat on a real front would they be able to use any of their skills? you can't room clear from a trench

You're asking how SEALS or delta force would do in an infantry engagement. They'd be good. but that's not their mission. You should just ask how the actual infantry would do. They barely die at all in the wars we've had this century. A peer force would fuck them up.

The real paper tiger imo is this "navy" of ours that could get fucked up by hypersonics or drones or the fact that China can make like 50,000k ships like it's nbd.

Cr the navy would be completely assfucked. We need to completely rework our power projection doctrine to stop relying on aircraft carriers. Not one will survive the first week of conflict. Imo the only alternative immune to the hypersonic problem is submarine drone carriers. Maybe even submarine aircraft carriers. But because our elected representatives, apparently unconcerned with the fact that this was the very manufacturing sector that defeated Hitler (boo! Hiss!), allowed their Jewish masters to move the American manufacturing sector onto foreign soil to make a few extra shekels, replacing our 11 aircraft carriers with an equally capable submarine carrier fleet would cost $10T. But let's not forget that China has over 200x the shipbuilding capacity that we do, and in one year (in peacetime, mind you) built as many ships by tonnage as we have since WW2. America would be completely and utterly fucked engaging with China.

We can't make drones at scale without more semiconductors and small engine factories. One reason Iran can make these drones is because they were already tooled up from making domestic scooter engines.

They're all good solid infantry. That's the foundation more or less. Look at what Ranger school is.

What's the biggest deficit in numbers that Alexander the Great ever overcame? Maybe 5:1? A platoon of SEALS could probably kill 5 for every 1 lost imo.

Spetsnaz would be intimidating to face off against because russians don't care if they die. There aren't very many "peers" afaik.

but that's the point, you aren't going to face off with spetsnaz or anyone else in a real war, it will just be normal combat and all of your extra shit won't be of much use unless you insert very far forward and that probably isn't a tolerable risk in a modern drone environment, navy seals would all be dead in seven seconds too just like anyone else in that scenario

In a real war there are more opportunities to deploy, probably 10x more reasons to actually use special forces, it's not all large-scale engagements. Things like marking the area that an air strike will happen for instance. I'm sure the number of reasons to use them is exponentially higher in an actual war.

Yeah we are doing variations on the Rumsfeld reforms with operational detachments hovering somewhere between 10 and 15 doods. The transporter vehicles they use give you an idea, like the Army's infantry squad buggy based on the Chevy Colorado. People mock it but look how many men it seats. Cargo space is limited but look how many it seats.

No, there would be one guy who's an expert at fixing shit, like radios or trucks or whatever needs fixing, and another dood who's good at other shit. Between the group, there's supposed to be enough skill and expertise to manage things independently.

The problem with modern warfare is that it's hard to sneak up on your adversary. If you're planning anything other than a yuge, staged invasion like Iraq, you have to drop off your guys far, far, far away from any kind of airport or whatever. A lot of times they just hijack civilian vehicles and use them to get around. That's why the Army infantry squad vehicle is so 180. Fuck what ANYONE says, if you can airlift a truck that seats 10, you save that team from having to find local transportation.

I don't think Russia has that problem right now. They wish they could airlift some dudes to within 50 miles of a Ukrainian airport, I'm sure.

Seats 9 but I think if you include the driver it's 10. The specs are built around whatever squad size Army thinks it needs.

https://www.gmdefensellc.com/site/us/en/gm-defense/home/integrated-vehicles/infantry-squad-vehicle.html

Same with the V-280 that's replacing the Blackhawk. The seating all works in multiples of whatever number Army thinks it needs for its math.

No, that vehicle is not meant to be used in combat. It's meant to save the troops from having to resort to drastic measures to get to their destination as quickly as possible. If you were dropped off in some random European village and told to get to the airport as fast as possible, you'd probably steal someone's car, at gunpoint. Except you'd have to steal two or three cars, or even a bus to move 10 men. You're just trying to close the distance at that point. You don't drive that fucking thing into battle. Having no doors makes it easy for people to jump out before there's any fighting.

For that matter, grow some balls and fly bombers over Kiev. Your dickless air force isn't even trying to achieve air superiority. The USAF on its worst day could own that air space in 5 minutes.

That had squat to do with pilots and everything to do with superior Chinese missiles. The PL-15 is the longest ranged BVR missile on earth and the AIM-120 is garbage and the only remotely comparable missile with similar range is the Russian R-37M which Russia refused to sell to India though it’s still outranged by the PL-15. India just got ranged.

I shouldn't know about anything. Most of what I know comes from the investigations that happen after shit goes bad. I'd like to know nothing more about any of this for the rest of my life.

SEAL Team 1

Sunburned men with bleach-blond hair and dead eyes. Half surfer, half psychopath. The Navy sent them west to Asia and they never came home, just circled back, drifting between Thailand bars and San Diego base housing, fists always clenched, always one memory from snapping. They fight like sharks; fast, loud, and covered in their own blood.

SEAL Team 2

The East Coast ghosts. Cold-water bastards with names like Sean and Nick, born of old money or no money, trained to slit throats in fjords and board yachts off the coast of Norway. They drink bourbon and bench press Catholic guilt. They despise SEAL Team 1 but would die for them.

SEAL Team 3

Desert rats. The Arabist clique. Speak just enough Farsi to order a death. Fought in Ramadi and walked out of Fallujah wearing someone else’s watch. They wear beards like flags and believe war is God’s only true language.

SEAL Team 4

Disbanded. Killed in the womb of Reagan's America. Remembered only by older drunks and forgotten case files. No one talks about them. Maybe for good reason.

SEAL Team 5

Frat boys with a kill count. Do pushups for God and war crimes. Kicked in doors in Kandahar, laughed while doing it, uploaded the footage. Loud. Tactically gifted but tactless. Their idea of nuance is switching from dip to vape.

SEAL Team 6 doesn’t exist. Not anymore. They disbanded it. Quietly. No ticker tape, no folded flags, no last ride through the surf. They took down the name, scrubbed the patches, packed up the gear, and told everyone to stop asking questions.

SEAL Team 7

A drunk fist swinging in all directions. They've been blacklisted from half of Southeast Asia and most of their own command structure. Coronado boys, sons of sand and chlorine, but no one lets them near a pool anymore. Bounced from Bahrain to Benghazi with a bottle in one hand and a court-martial in the other. Warfighters who never came home from liberty. Their enemies forget them. Their commanders cannot.

SEAL Team 8

East Coast clean-cut killers. Buttoned-down but still bleeding. These are the quiet SEALs, the ones who answer emails and murder men in hotels. Good with PowerPoint and suppressors. They work like it's a job, because it is. Too professional to be legendary, too competent to be memorable. Their legacy is mission success and empty rooms.

SEAL Team 10

Blood-slicked ghosts of the Middle East. Operators with PTSD tattoos and burner phones. They came out of Fallujah altered. Not broken—honed. They read Marcus Aurelius before breaching. They keep track of their body count in two languages. Dusty, precise, haunted. A low murmur of violence, forever humming just below Virginia Beach.

SEAL Team 17 (Reserve)

A paper tiger for weekend warriors. The benchwarmers of Coronado. Men who work finance during the week and LARP as frogmen on Sundays. Formerly “Operational Support” but rarely operational, and barely supportive. They train like it matters. It doesn’t. But let them have their dreams.

SEAL Team 18 (Reserve)

Virginia Beach reservists still pretending they got tapped for DEVGRU. Office job commandos. They memorize gear lists and think that makes them deadly. Their deployments are PowerPoint-based. The only thing they’ve neutralized is a Dunkin’ Donuts breakfast sandwich. But they’ve got tridents—and that's enough to haunt barstools and Bumble profiles alike.

(DEVGRU)

The varsity team. The killers of men who kill men. Worshipped by movie producers and loathed by JSOC planners. Operate on a different frequency—higher altitude, lower morals. They don’t write books, they commission them. Shot bin Laden, then went shopping. Always half a scandal away from being disbanded. Operate like they already were.

Delta Force (1st SFOD-D)

They don’t advertise. Don’t recruit. They select. Ghosts with mortgages. Planners, thinkers, grim architects of violence. They have no time for tattoos or Instagram. They break necks like they sign forms—quietly, precisely. When SEALs want to impress the girls, they say “Delta was there too.”

Delta doesn’t speak. They’ve already left the room.

Green Berets (Army Special Forces)

Professors of insurgency. Build-a-coup workshop leaders. They drink with warlords and teach tribes how to kill better. They look like the guy who fixed your plumbing, but he once overthrew a Central American government for a bet. Smarter than SEALs. Slower, but more methodical. Theirs is a long war, with long regrets.

Rangers (75th Ranger Regiment)

Young. Hungry. Eager to die. Light infantry on speed. They kick doors while grinning. Don’t need to win, just need to fight. Sleep four to a room, shave twice a day, worship violence and order like twin gods. America’s favorite blunt instrument. The tip of a very dumb spear.

Air Force Pararescue (PJs)

Medics with wings. Saints of the battlefield. They jump out of planes to save men who were too stupid or unlucky to walk out. Quiet. Sad. Unshakable. Will go into hell to get a body. Everyone respects them. No one wants to be them.

Marine Force Recon

Useless. Swagger without substance. The ones who show up late, muddy, and confused. Got kicked out of some country—maybe Iraq—for being too loud, too drunk, too dangerous, too Marine. Marines who think they’re special because they can swim and read a map.

Everyone else does what Force Recon does, just faster, better, and without vomiting on the embassy steps. They're the guys you send in after you’ve already won. A legacy program with no legacy. Retired in place. Their motto should be: “We tried.”
