If they are complaing about paying a lousy $5-7k a year in property taxes on their $350k house, then they can't afford to live there and should probably just move. There are plenty of people who can afford the property taxes who would happily take the property off their hands.

Actually, yes. Property taxes to support school districts are pretty bad. The high pay for teachers has not yielded much brainpower in the legislature, so they haven't come up with a solution to property tax relief yet.

That's really a $1.6 million house selling for $1.2 million. Property taxes on a home that has a true value of $900-950k in Lower Merion township will have property taxes of $16-18k, not $25k.

If you're paying $2k a month in property taxes, the home is worth (or should be worth) around $1.5 million. In this market, you can find a $900k house selling for $750k or so.

I'm not getting worked up about this.

Yes, they're overpaid, but the problem with the US economy isn't middle class types being overpaid. Complaining about this will just create more downward pressure on middle class wages, at a time when middle class worker in the private sector are underpaid as it is.

The main problem with wages in the US is the top 1% and especially .1% who are screwing this country left and right. That is what people should be bitching about.

Complaining about this will only cause more downward pressure on wages for the middle class. It will make the main problem, the 1% screwing everyone else over, worse.

Since IMO complaining about this makes the true wage crisis in the US worse, I'm not going to engage in it.

so wait, allowing the middle class teachers to screw over middle class workers in the private sector will make us better off? it's not like this money comes straight from the top income percentile. even if it did a lower tax rate on the middle class would be preferable to excessive salaries for those lazy fucks

the problem with the US is that in past decades, some simpleton from Southeast Kentucky state could get this job and make this kind of money and not be a very good teacher. The problem they just aren't very good. So like everything else the schools are failures and a welfare apparatus for an entrenched group of underperformers.
