Holding camshaft and injection pump in place was not fun. Also finding TDC was a bitch, the mark on the flywheel is tiny.

Not sure why but every fucking thing on this engine was a bitch

I guess so. What a mess.

The worst part was examining the old belt and seeing that it was flawless. Lol. Well. At least I got to put a new water pump in. Seems like an upgrade since it has a steel impeller (old one was plastic) amd 8 vanes instead of 7.

I am not saying it’s a good idea, but timing belt intervals are very conservative and a lot is due to age. If you buy a high quality belt given how you drive a few year interval should be ok. I do know of a 90s Corolla on its original belt with 300k plus. lol.

The problem is I don't know when it was done last. When you buy a car from a guy with 210k miles on it, and he himself bought it to flip, and it comes with a timing belt kit in the trunk from the original owner who clearly had it on his mind, and then you put 40k miles on it.... you better change the fucking timing belt lol.

Newer land cruiser I have has a belt and it's due in about 3k miles. I've heard it's a terrible job.

Good on you.

How is it possible that you know how to work on your car yourself?

I was raised by a single mother, btw. She destroyed me as a person.

I was incinerated by a single mother who beat me every day.

I started working on cars when I bought my first one and couldnt afford to get it fixed. The glow plug relay was out on my 1987 Mercredes 300TD station wagon. 6 cylinder turbo inline. I had no idea how cool that engine was until years after I sold it.
