Imagine if you could see things that happened 13.2 billion years ago right now, today. Gravitational lensing already makes that feasible. We can't see recent events like the Civil War, but someome else on another planet perched at the right angle will be able to see it in the future, due to gravitational lensing.

Honestly we need better imaging of our own solar system before we fixate on the rest of teh universe. Our own sun ejects a wall of plasma we didn't even know about until 2014, and none our measurements took that into account. A lot of what we thought was distant radiation may have been coming from our own goddamn sun.
