There wasn't until very recently but now a 1,000 drone swarm can just show up to your launch bunkers in North Dakota in the roof of a semi truck or worse, get buried on some chinese owned farmland a few miles away and let them just fly down the launch tubes when they see them opening. Keeping our nuclear assets mobile and undetectable will be very important going forward, especially since our strategy depends on the ability to decapitate the enemy in response to their first use. |

The US will never first strike anyone, so those silos only open in retaliation to someone else first striking the US. They can now switch that first strike from counter-force (nuking our nukes) to counter-value (nuking our cities and infrastructure) because the counter force mission can be accomplished with shit from Temu and the fact the Chinese own land around every important US military installation.
The submarines and bombers are still valid deterrents but the best missiles by far are the ones without the size constraints of having to fit inside a moving object in the air or underwater. Ground launched missiles don't have to make as many concessions to still be usable and are much harder to track and kill via this type of attack. |
