And remember that FSD is technology that makes people anxious wrt safety. I’ve meet tons of people who just refuse to get in a Waymo because it’s scary. Waymo is just going to be inherently safer at the margins because it’ll be able to see in fog, rain and sun flare when even a human couldn’t. Tesla is gambling that people will just accept an inferior technology when Waymo is a capable competitor.

1) There is zero evidence that the cybercab is 5x cheaper than Waymo.

2) Even if it is, who gives a shit? The cost of the vehicle is a one-time fixed cost. If you take care of the battery, an EV can stay on the road for a decade or more with minimal maintenance.

3) Even if Tesla saves money by not using lidar (a very questionable assumption), they are going to lose far more by not being able to operate in darkness, fog, heavy rain, etc.

4) No shit the driver is responsible if a Tesla gets in an accident while using FSD. How the fuck is that even relevant?

Since you clearly aren't very smart, let me spell it out for you: Insurance companies give discounts to drivers who use technology that can reduce accidents. Anti-lock brakes jump to mind immediately. Suppose Tesla can show that FSD reduces the risk of getting in an accident by 80% (just making up a number). Insurance companies agree to cut premiums by $150 per month to drivers who use FSD. Since the cost of FSD is $100 per month, you still save $50 per month by subscribing and you get a self-driving car to boot. Every driver in the country with a compatible vehicle will be using FSD, which is potentially tens (or hundreds) of millions in pure profit going into Tesla's coffers every month. That seems like a far better bet than trying to beat Waymo at their own game.
