My wife’s grandmother is in a wheelchair and has dementia. If you have her a golf club she would probably try to fuck it that’s how fucked up she is. Their family brings her to events and carts her around talking to her like she knows what the fuck anyone is talking about. When I first met her she was basically sitting next to me and it was awkward bc I felt like I was sitting next to a corpse.

I brought it up today that maybe they should leave her at home in a fuckin basement and not bring her around anymore. Her father turned red and looked like he wanted to fight me but me being 6’7 280 he wisely discarded that idea. My wife told me we should leave now she’s crying in the car.

no one knows what they can still see, hear, understand.

at very least, maybe leave her at the nursing home for frenzied family events, but dont stop visiting? I had a relative die recently with dementia, they were basically non-verbal and somewhat catatonic, but when we were leaving, they smiled and said thank you, see you later. So, i dont know. But what I do know is that her father should stab you with a hunting knife repeatedly. hth.

I’m not saying don’t love them. But don’t cart them around and have them being a sort of “face of the family.” You don’t want others seeing that and your family being represented by that piece of shit. It’s humiliating and I don’t think an able bodied person would want to be remembered as a person with dementia in a wheelchair.

Depends on whether they would say funny shit or just be sad and tragic.

Worse—they’ll say shit like how are you doing grandma? Expecting a response but she’s essentially a vegetable.
