do helicopters seeds from trees grow into trees if planted

Yes, the winged seeds from trees, commonly called "helicopter seeds" or samaras, can grow into trees if planted. These seeds are adapted to be dispersed by wind, allowing them to travel farther from the parent tree and potentially find more favorable growing conditions.

Here's why and how:

Seed Dispersal:

The winged shape of the samara, which resembles a helicopter, helps it spin and glide through the air, allowing wind to carry it away from the parent tree.

Finding New Habitats:

This dispersal mechanism helps the seeds land in areas with better sunlight, soil, and water than the shaded area under the parent tree's canopy.

Germination:

Many samaras are fertile and can sprout into seedlings if conditions are right, such as sufficient moisture, sunlight, and temperature.

Examples:

Trees that produce samaras include maples, oaks, elms, and ash.

Planting:

You can plant samaras by placing them in a pot with soil and providing the right conditions for germination, or you can leave them on the ground where they may sprout naturally.

digging up seedlings to put them in a pot is stupid, there is a reason tree nurseries don't do that

you'll probably damage the root system and you definitely stress the trees and most likely kill them, they are currently growing in the ground where they are designed to be

You're such a negative nancy. All these places like Home Depot and nurseries sell them in pots. I'll be careful transplanting them. They are currently sprouting everywhere in my vegetable garden which has really loose soil. it will be easy to do.

with the idea that you will then take things home and plant them in the ground, a tree will outgrow a pot very quickly

I am going to sell them when they hit 5 feet tall and command $75 dollars per tree. Times 20,000 that's $1.5 million. The big expense will be those 1.5-2 foot pots I have to put them in. But I'm okay with a little overhead as long as I make $1 mil+ from this.

I just had a great idea. I probably get 20,000 of those little helicopter seedlings that fall of the massive tree in my backyard into my lawn every year. I'm going to lease a few acres in the country for cheap, plant them, wait until they are 5 ft or so in a year, and sell them for $75 a piece. That's $1.5 million.

Let's talk in a couple years. I am looking for a couple acres right now. I may be too late for this season but still have tens of thousands of those things in my yard.

3. I'm realizing that I need a large truck bed to transport 20,000 trees from the farm to the buyers. I don't have my CDL but I could get it. It's not hard.

3A. Customers who are willing to buy your maple seedlings at a price that gets you a margin

When I was a teenager, I did the math of how fast mice multiply and had this amazing idea that I would breed mice in our barn and sell them and make MILLIONS AND BILLIONS. Until mom said, "who's going to buy a mouse for good money?". She didn't even have to mention what me starting a mouse plague would do to our place.
