Reflections about turning 39 and a shift in life philosophy (CSLG)

Date: May 14th, 2023 12:34 PM Author: tan house background story I'm going to be 39 next month and I've always thought about death and the finite nature of life. It has been one of the primary drivers of why I am so happy and generally don't take things too seriously. However, I have noticed I've been very much committed both physically and mentally to the pursuit of growing my businesses.
Over the last few months I've thought much more than usual about the finality of life. Especially that my 40s will probably be the last decade of my life where I am young enough and physically healthy enough to do all the important things I want to do. It has given me a tremendous amount of anxiety and I have spent a considerable amount of time reflecting over what I want to do.
I have come to the realization that I really do love the hustle of working and that I probably don't want to stop. It has nothing to do with the money. But I also know that if I don't spend a significant amount of time and energy in my youth pursuing important things I would have crippling regret later. And not to shit on RSF, but I don't mean the empty robotic traveling he does. What I'm talking about is really growing as a person, improving myself, and knowing that when I am dying I will have felt like I did everything in my life that was important to me.
My biggest goal between now and my birthday next month is to force myself to check out mentally from work when I get out of the office, and take several more weeks per year to travel, have adventures, and improve myself. I'm also going take off lots of random days to just enjoy life.
My networth is around 18 million right now and my kids have a networth north of 3 million. I haven't taken ANY pay this year yet (I've paid about 2 million in estimated taxes though). By year end I should be at like 21+ million NW after taxes and my kids like 4+ million (25 million family NW). Even if I spent 300k/year (I spent about 160K last year), I am so far beyond my needs I will never run out of money. In fact, I would likely hit 9 figures in 20 years even if I stopped working today.
Some of the things on my list include: chess, BJJ, piano, mountain climbing (will be definitely hard since I'm a type 1 diabetic), surfing (maybe I'll go out to Hawaii to hang with EPAH), skateboarding, traveling to new places, cooking, reading/learning, making new friends with people who are interesting to me, etc.
Also, life is just flying by right now and I don't want to wake up one day at 50 and feel like I squandered the insane position I'm in right now. I am rich, accomplished, physically healthy, surrounded by people who love and respect me. And I'm only 38 years old. I've already won life and I need to force myself to at least partially check out of the game. The one thing I have going for me is that I have incredible willpower and drive to do what is important to me. And while most people who are financially successful like me end up throwing away more life than they need to for money they'll never use, I am not going to do it.
I'll keep you all updated on my journey, brothers. But I am truly excited for moving into my 40s for the next phase of my life. I think the next 10 years will be the best 10 years I will ever have.

But your response shifts the goal post a bit. Do you dispute that CSLG has not spent time researching it? He has never honestly sought God, or given Christianity a chance. So how can he say there is nothing after death when he hasn't even sought God? Ultimately, he wants to believe death is the end so he can live for himself. People stuck in sin TELL themselves that death is the end so they can do what they want. But deep down they know it's not true. Why do you think he is preoccupied with death? It's because his soul is not ready to die. Because dying now means he would not be redeemed and go back to God. But God is infinitely merciful. Oh imagine someone like CSLG, a member of God's original chosen people, returning back to Him! Imagine what he could do for God, how fulfilling a life He could lead here on earth. Unfortunately many people make this realization too late, and find that most of their time on earth has been wasted. |
