They care a lot about "fit," so if your interview didn't seem to flow well and you didn't have a great conversation or make them laugh once or twice, that's probably what got you dinged, not your grades. They have a rep in the industry for having "cool" lawyers, however ambiguous that is, and like to keep that up as much as possible.
Generally, they aren't super picky T5 schools grade-wise, but they may be more so this year b/c they're doing really well (no layoffs, no deferrals, above-market skadden-style bonuses last year, though tied to hours) and people who otherwise might not have been interested now are. They also have a lot of bankruptcy work due to the Lehman trustee stuff and a small bankruptcy firm they acquired that apparently brought in a lot of work. So they might be getting more interest from that too. |

These interviews are tough to gauge. I thought my Debevoise interview was great, and I haven't heard anything from them. Hopefully, for both of us, these firms will continue to give callbacks into Monday. |

I think 1L's are in better shape. Once firms started to defer, there was bound to be a bottle neck and we are seeing that now. Sure OCI next year won't compare to 2006 but firms will have hit the reset button and the back log of deferred associates will be gone. |

In terms of total unemployeds we'll be looking at 33-50%, depending on the yield rate of call back interviews (which I suspect will decrease somewhat this year as well). Plenty of median-ish people will be amongst this group, and even a few stone scholars. Many will probably find something eventually, either through mass mailing, gov't/PI work, etc. But for the next few months they'll be scrambling. I hope to God I'm not amongst them.
